The day I tried my hand at Golf
Howdy Folks,
Yesterday I tried playing golf for the first time in my life, and it was gooood!
It was the 'Los Verdes' golf course in LA, on the pacific ocean, pristine and spectacular. Though I was never intrigued by the game which I deemed too slow and business-like, but I still accepted an invitation by a friend of mine, just for the heck of it. Most of the gentleman playing were known to me and quite elderly and accomplished. They included a VP of a tech company, a big shot from Air India and the director of R&D at a medical center.
The first thing that struck me was the golf course itself and the spectacular view that it offered. It was amazing, you could see the pacific ocean just beyond the greens and some holes were picture perfect. The game of golf itself is quite interesting, and I kid you not perfect for gentlemen who want to enjoy a Sunday afternoon with friends. It is quite expensive though with a set of golf clubs, attire and the regular course fees costing a bundle. Though I did not play a heck lot, with my first shot going for the moon and almost cracking a skull open. Unanimous decision was to put me through golf school, before I am allowed a stroke. However, I played a fair bit on the 13th and 14th hole with not many people around. The rest were gracious enough to wait for my silly golfing antics. I did take a liking to the game, a gentle game of skill and precision with languid pace suiting all ages. It is however very difficult to master, as I found out. I wonder how the Tiger Woods of this world pull off those shots. All in all, learning golf is amongst which I'd do before finishing school, others being sailing school and mastering tennis. I guess this quarter would be tennis time, as I am enrolling for a pro course at the Univ. My last few attempts at it were enjoyable but not worth mentioning as far as elegance is considered.
